MEET THE TEAM
Frank La Spada (AKA Frankie)
Sport and performance has always been a major part of Frank's life. From ages 10 to 18 his time was spent swimming and cycling at a competitive level.
At 18 years of age, Frank then moved into strength training. Initially, this was used to help improve his swimming and cycling, however, this then quickly turned into his next competitive endeavour, powerlifting.
He was ALL IN. Frank hired a specific powerlifting coach and developed a relationship with several healthcare professionals that specialise in strength sports with an aim of competing in the 69kg division for Powerlifting Australia.
In his first year Frank won several local competitions to which he finished 7th in the overall Australian rankings for his weight class. In the following year Frank continued his winning streak with local competitions and finished 5th in the Australian rankings.
This is the stage where everything changed. Frank wanted to take his lifting to the next level so he could compete with the top dogs. To achieve this, he commenced taking the time to learn about sports nutrition. Specifically, how to optimise his body for performance to ensure he get the most out of himself with each competition he competes in. Anyone who knows Frank often jokes about how meticulous he is when he sets his mind to something.
Anyone can have a good strength coach, but only the very best have a nutritional plan that is just as comprehensive as their strength plan. This was Frank's competitive advantage and his best route to making the most amount of progress is the shortest amount of time.
This mindset and strategic nutritional planning lead him to finishing in the top 3 in the Australian rankings for his weight Class two years in a row, as well as finishing 2nd at two consecutive Powerlifting Australia National Championships.
Frank is now in a position where he wants to help your everyday individual as well as like-minded athletes reach their full potential through diet and nutrition using the skills and experiences he has learned across the way.
Optimising performance and body composition is where he does his best work. Frank has worked with a wide range of people including individuals who have never followed a nutritional plan in their life, to coaching one of Australia’s strongest Athletes, Tyson Morrissy, for world level strongman competitions.
All methods that he applies to his clients are evidence-based and proven to work. Frank helps you become the best version of yourself. The plan is tailored to your specific needs and is designed to help fit into your current lifestyle.
If you truly want to be best athlete you can be, the days of merely training in the gym are behind us. Let Frank help you develop a plan that will have you looking better, feeling better and performing better.
Leanne McConnell (AKA The Beauty and Brains behind the Operation)
Leanne is the behind-the-scenes guru who does anything and everything to keep Zoned running which allows Coach Frankie to do what he does best… coach.
Leanne is a Registered Nurse/Paramedic who works full-time in the healthcare industry and thus understands the implications shift work can have on nutrition and performance. With this knowledge, she has been able to educate Frankie in order for him to help service our clients who had been nervous about approaching us about their ability to maintain their nutrition/performance whilst completing shift work.
Whether it be creating new and exciting recipes for our clients, handling all our administration tasks, or managing our social media and marketing content, Leanne does it all.
But don’t let this fool you, this little pocket rocket is also an athlete in her own right.
Leanne started her sporting career started at just 18 months of age when her parents threw her into the swimming pool, and she’s continued to be an enthusiastic swimmer since then. She then started ballet at 5 years of age and continued to compete in this sport throughout high school. She eventually traded in her pointe shoes for metcons and started CrossFit.
Realising she enjoyed the heavy lifting aspect as opposed to the cardio (who can blame her) she transitioned over to powerlifting so she could focus on building her total. She has worked closely with her coach Tyson Morrissy over the past 6 years and has competed numerous times. This is also where she met Frankie.
Her current PBs are a 120kg squat, 125kg deadlift and a 57.5kg bench at 57kgs bodyweight.
